We do not know who this individual may have been exactly. There is an Alonso de C\u00e1ceres, son of Pedro de C\u00e1ceres and Tomasa de Guelmes, and brother of Francisco de C\u00e1ceres (c. 1539\u20131589), a Spanish conquistador whose activities were carried out mainly in Venezuela. Francisco and Alonso fought in the Flemish tercios. Cf. Ismael Silva Moreno,\u00a0Hombres y mujeres del siglo XVI venezolano<\/em>\u00a0(Caracas, 1983), pp. 262 and 268. Another Alonso de C\u00e1ceres, son of Alonso de Alarc\u00f3n and In\u00e9s de Vargas (natives of Ronda), is especially known for having served as maestre de campo in command of the right wing of the Spanish army during the Battle of Saint-Quentin, on 10 August 1557. It is also possible that this Alonso de C\u00e1ceres was a close relative of Mart\u00edn de C\u00e1ceres, whom BAM had placed under the protection of Albornoz (see letter\u00a01568 11 09<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
