The process of publishing books in the Low Countries had to go through two inevitable bureaucratic procedures: first, ecclesiastical censorship; and then, the license and privilege, which fell under the jurisdiction of the King\u2019s Privy Council. Once these steps were completed, a third remained: the appraisal of the book, also carried out by the Privy Council. The Commentaria in XII Prophetas <\/em>by BAM are recorded in the printing house\u2019s books at a price of 70 plakets, that is, three florins and ten patars (MPM Ms. 269, f. 11v), two patars less than the price stated in this document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for the date of this request, the only certain thing is the terminus post quem non<\/em>: 9 November, the day on which Secretary Jacques de la Torre signed in the same city of Antwerp the resolution of the Privy Council. It would not be too risky, however, to suppose that this letter was written within about a month prior to the date of the response. The document is not in BAM\u2019s own hand, though it is an original, since the royal commissioner affixed his signature and flourish at the end. The paper is now part of the printing house\u2019s archives, because the appraisal of the book was noted and signed in one corner of the same request and then sent back to Plantin\u2019s workshop. The document bears later pagination and still preserves the folds made both for sending it to the Privy Council and for its return to the printing house. The original address on the letter has not been preserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: <\/span>2<\/a> Charles Tisnacq (principios de siglo-Bruselas, 17 de abril de 1573). Gran amigo de\n Viglio, hijo de Sim\u00f3n de Tisnacq o Tisnac, caballero de la reina Mar\u00eda de Hungr\u00eda\n y de Mar\u00eda van Thielt. Tras sus estudios de Derecho, march\u00f3 a Italia y, a su regreso,\n comenz\u00f3 su carrera como consejero (26 de julio de 1537) y abogado-fiscal (4 de junio\n de 1545) en el consejo de Brabante. En 1559 es nombrado presidente del consejo de\n estado y Felipe II se lo lleva a Espa\u00f1a como ministro de justicia y secretario para\n los sucesos de los Pa\u00edses Bajos. El 9 de septiembre de 1568 se le nombra presidente\n del consejo privado, cuando Viglio renuncia al cargo. Este \u00faltimo, cuya salud estaba\n en declive, fue mantenido en su puesto de presidente del consejo de estado por Felipe\n II. Cuando a Tisnaco le sobreviene la muerte en 1573, Viglio se vuelve a hacer cargo\n provisionalmente de la presidencia del Consejo Privado. Tisnaco deja a un hijo, Carlos,\n caballero de la orden militar de Calatrava y lugarteniente del rey en la corte feudal\n de Brabante. Cf. Note: <\/span>3<\/a> Jacques de la Torre (ca. 1513 – 1581), secretario del Consejo Privado, era hijo de\n un importante mercader de Brujas y de una mujer flamenca.
